Notes We e-mailed Tumblr staff asking for official comment on the Missing e situation. Within five minutes, this is what we got back.Hi Ernie,
Thank you for sharing your concerns about the Missing E browser extension.
We encourage a thriving ecosystem of applications that work with Tumblr. But, we must also ensure those applications don’t compromise the stability of Tumblr, the security of Tumblr data, or the safety and privacy of Tumblr users.
When we have concerns about an application, Tumblr contacts the application developer and asks them to address our concerns or to stop distribution of their application. That is what is happening in this case. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us.

It sounds like missing-e is making a large number of api requests, and that is affecting tumblr stability.

Since it no longer calls the tumblr API, missing e doesn’t compromise the stability security or safety/privacy of tumblr in any way at all

I don’t like their response, personally as someone who made great use of Missing e’s various functions, but honestly, I also understand it from the website and the staff’s point of view.
